How it All Started ...
The concept for the Apex Awards was abruptly created & independently organized by Jo Anne ‘JoJo’ Piccarillo, tour assistant aka the Tour Mom – who had been a core member of the Tour For Life team for over four years. These awards were inspired by the indie artists who dedicated their time and talents to the annual Tour For Life, a mental health and suicide prevention charity event.
Through community donations, sponsorships, and the support of dedicated allies, the first-ever Apex Awards honored recipients with individually customized trophies and prize packs. Although the inaugural event lacked a formal ceremony, the spirit of recognition and gratitude for these artists’ contributions to mental health awareness was at the heart of the awards.
This foundational moment set the stage for the evolution of the Apex Awards, leading to its expanded mission today of celebrating the therapeutic impact of music in communities.
